If you are interested in a tour that combines ancient Greek history and wine tasting, this tour is the perfect choice for you. Exclusively with our tour you will have the opportunity to discover two must-see sights on this memorable day trip from Athens. You’ll explore Ancient Corinth, Corinth Canal and Wine Tasting in Nemea.
After your morning pick up from your central located hotel, the bus will drive to Corinth via Iera Odos (the Sacred Way). It was so called because it was the route taken by a procession celebrating the Eleusinian Mysteries, were initiations held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone based at Eleusis in ancient Greece.
Driving along the coastal road, we reach Corinth canal, which merges the Aegean with the Ionian Sea (short stop for photos of the breathtaking view). Shortly thereafter we reach the ancient town of Corinth, where St. Paul lived and preached for two years (Acts 18:1-18). Visit the ruins of the ancient city where Paul worked with Aquila and Priscilla, see the remains of the first century shops, the Agora where Paul’s trial by Gallio took place, the Fountain of Peirene, and one of the most outstanding monuments of pre –Roman period, the temple of Apollo.
After Ancient Corinth our driver will lead you in Nemea where you will have the oportunity to visit Palivos Winery and taste the famous wines of the area.
The wider region of Nemea, also known in mythology from the first labor of Hercules, is the largest wine-growing zone in Greece in which the famous PDO Nemea wines are produced.
The area has been famous for its wine since ancient times, when it was called Fliasion Pedion and reached its peak in the 6th century BC. Just 127km from Athens, on the road from Corinth to Nafplio and Tripoli, in the Nemea region, is the largest vineyard in the Balkans, with 2500 hectares of vineyards and 800 meters from the imposing archaeological site of Ancient Nemea is the Ktima Palivou.
In Ktima Palivos you will have the oportunity to taste 5 different wines accompanied with a cold platter of various cheeses, cured meats, dried fruits and breadsticks.
